Liveabord Egypt BDE-tour: Brothers, Daedalus, Elphinstone
The so-called “BDE Tour” is the classic marine park tour. It’s beautiful and offers great potential for encounters with large pelagic fish. Due to the currents at the exposed dive sites, some dives are a bit more challenging. Therefore, this tour is recommended for experienced divers.
The Brother Islands are two small islands in the middle of the Red Sea: Big Brother and Little Brother. They are undoubtedly among the best dive sites in the world and are known for their impressive coral growth, countless schools of fish, and especially for large pelagic fish and sharks. The Brothers offer an immense density of marine life in a very small area. Sponges, anemones, and all kinds of hard and soft corals in an incredible array of colors and shapes adorn the walls. Grey reef sharks, thresher sharks, hammerhead sharks, or oceanic whitetip sharks—anything is possible here. The Brothers also boast two shipwrecks: the “Numidia” and the “Aida.”
Daedalus Reef lies 180 km south of the Brother Islands. The reef is surrounded by a steep drop-off and features a plateau on its southern side. Along the northern wall, where conditions can sometimes be a bit rougher, entire schools of hammerhead sharks are frequently sighted! Dolphins may also join the divers here. On the southern plateau, in addition to occasional and breathtaking visits from thresher sharks, impressive and diverse schools of fusiliers, surgeonfish, and mackerel await.
Elphinstone is another spectacular reef with some bizarre currents. Beautiful plateaus and breathtaking drop-offs covered in gorgonians, wire corals, black corals, and soft corals make this a diver’s paradise. Oceanic whitetip sharks and barracudas are regularly spotted. With a bit of luck, you might even see a grey reef shark or a tiger shark.
