Scubadiving Safari South Fury Shoals and Daedalus Reef
The beginning of November is a very good time for a diving safari in the Red Sea, as the water is still warm and the air temperatures are pleasant.
This tour takes us to the world-famous Daedalus Reef and then to the beautiful reefs of Fury Shoals.
Daedalus Reef is located about 100 km south-east of our starting point in Marsa Alam in the middle of the Red Sea. The reef is surrounded by a steep wall and has a plateau on the south side. Whole schools of hammerhead sharks can often be spotted on the north wall, where conditions are sometimes a little rougher. On the southern plateau – in addition to occasional visits from thresher sharks – there are impressive and diverse schools of fusiliers, surgeonfish and mackerel. Large Napoleons are also frequently seen here.
Daedalus is a marine park area. According to Egyptian law, a minimum diving experience of 50 logged dives is required here.
The trip continues to the Fury Shoals. Here there is a great variety of shallow and sheltered sites with canyons, coral gardens and beautifully overgrown ergs as well as more challenging sites with steep walls, currents and a good chance of encountering big fish.
The Fury Shoals include beautiful reefs such as Shaab Maksour and Shaab Claudio. The southernmost point of the tour will be Sataya Reef, which is home to a school of dolphins on the south side that can be visited by snorkeling. Night dives are also possible.
